THE INSTITUTE
Vijay Balasubramanian, MD, (Founder & Medical Director) formed Valley Advance Lung Disease Institute (VALDI) with a mission to provide the highest standard of care for Advanced Lung Disease patients in the Central Valley of California. VALDI focuses on the care of those with Pulmonary Hypertension (PH), Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD), Sarcoidosis and many other lung diseases.
VALDI manages the treatment throughout the progression of the disease and coordinates care for surgical and transplant interventions. Individuals with breathing difficulty or persistent cough begin their diagnostic journey with a referral to one of the many highly trained pulmonologists available throughout the Central Valley.
Patients referred to VALDI benefit from Dr. Bala’s clinical expertise and a network of medical specialists, practitioners and academics working collaboratively with patients and their support systems to formulate treatment plans
for advanced lung diseases.

Dr. Vijay Balasubramanian, MD, MRCP (UK), FCCP, is a Board-Certified Pulmonologist specializing in advanced lung diseases, particularly pulmonary hypertension.
His current active roles include:

• Ex Officio Section Chair, Pulmonary Vascular Network, American College of Chest Physicians
• Board Member, Team Phenomenal Hope
• Co-Chair, Access to Care Task Force, Innovative Drug Development Initiative, Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute (PVRI)
• Editorial Board Member for Chest Pulmonary Journal, Chest Physician, and Advances in Pulmonary Hypertension (PHA)
Dr. Bala also serves as the Medical Director at VALDI Inc, where his leadership shapes innovative approaches to pulmonary care and research.
A nationally recognized expert in his field, Dr. Bala’s career spans clinical excellence, groundbreaking research, and a dedication to education. During his tenure as Professor of Medicine at UCSF Fresno, he established the Central Valley’s first accredited Pulmonary Hypertension Program, setting new standards for care in the region.
Dr. Bala’s influence extends beyond patient care. He is a sought-after speaker at conferences and medical institutions nationwide, sharing insights drawn from his clinical and academic expertise. His contributions have earned him national recognition and prestigious appointments, including leadership roles within professional organizations such as the American College of Chest Physicians and the Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Bala is deeply committed to patient advocacy. He co-founded the Central Valley Pulmonary Hypertension Support Group to provide education and community support for patients and their families, emphasizing a compassionate and holistic approach to care.
